Apr 16, 2018He was born July 13, 1936, in Calloway County, Kentucky, to Chesley G. Cooper and Willie Spencer Cooper.He retired from the Murray City Fire Department, having served as chief his last 10 years and then later retired as a safety officer with the New Orleans Public School System. He was a member of South Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and served his country as a U.S. Navy veteran.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Christine Smotherman, and three brothers, Leon Cooper, R.L. Cooper and Hewlett Cooper.Mr. Cooper is survived by one daughter, Jeanette LaRose of Murray; one son, Shawn Cooper of Murray; three grandchildren, Robert LaRose, Jennifer LaRose and Christopher LaRose, all of Murray; and special friend, Mary Kathryn Starks of Murray. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 14, 2018, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home. Burial will follow in South Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with Kevin Penick and Robert Baker officiating. She was born July 2, 1929, to Latus and Jewell Lamb York. She was a member of Hardin Baptist Church for 60 years and the Benton Woodmen of the World.In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ted Arant; brothers, Alvin York, Neal York, Jerry York and Dan York; and sisters, Lena Darnell and Shirley Thompson. Mrs. Arant is survived by her sons, Marty Don Arant and wife Becky of Benton and Michael Arant of Benton; two granddaughters, Brittany Gibbs and husband Eric of Sacaton, Arizona, and Brandi Edwards and husband Tyler of Benton; and seven great-grandchildren.
